Kirby Vacuum

Kirby vacuums are high power, high suction vaccum cleaners that are sold door to door as well as in some authorized vacuum stores. We had a salesman visit our home and provide a lovely demonstration about their kirby vacuum, and it was amazing how much dirt our regular hoover vacuum left behind. But at a price tag of $1500 we just couldn't justify the expense. Two weeks later we bought a kirby vacuum at an estate auction for $90. I don't think the other buyers knew what they were bidding on. The other thing we like about kirby is that Warren Buffet owns the company.

Kirbys are classified according to generation, G3, G4, G5, G6, etc. We have a G4 but with a G3 bag. Also a reason we got for cheap. Everyone thought it was one generation older. They are upright models with bags.

I am not a fan of the high pressure sales tactics of vacuum salesmen. I would suggest doing some research on the internet, viewing review sites, ebay, and other vacuum stores for online pricing. Many will offer free or discounted shipping. You can also do what we did and look at estate sales, garage sales and auctions for older model Kirby's. They are reported to last 20 years or more, so the older models do pretty well and for a lot less money.

Kirby supplies, such as parts and bags and accessories are very easy to come by on the internet.

Some friends had the kirby salesman visit so they could see what the vacuum would do on their floors, as well as get a free shampooing. You can decide if their sales pitch is worth the $1000-$1600 it costs for the newest model. OUCH!
